Most tools read JPG, PNG and WEBP, as well as HEIC photos from an iPhone; the converter also reads AVIF wherever your browser can decode it, and the GIF background remover takes animated GIFs. Photos come back as JPG, PNG or WEBP — no browser can create HEIC or AVIF files — while Image to SVG writes vector SVG, Image to ICO writes favicons, Image to text gives you plain text and the PDF tools write PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Which image tool reduces file size the most?
Resizing, when the image is larger than it needs to be: halving the width and height leaves a quarter of the pixels. Compressing then re-encodes what is left more efficiently. For a very large photo, do both — resize first, then compress.
What is the difference between compressing and resizing an image?
Compressing keeps the dimensions and stores the pixels more efficiently. Resizing changes the dimensions themselves. Both make the file smaller, but only resizing makes the picture smaller on screen.
Do these image tools keep transparency?
Yes, for PNG and WEBP: the converter, cropper and resizer all keep the alpha channel. JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas turn white when you save as JPG. To create transparency, remove the background.
Can I use the image tools on my phone?
Yes. Open any tool in your phone’s browser and pick pictures from the photo library or Files; iPhone HEIC photos open as they are. Only the heaviest jobs, such as very large images or removing the background from a long GIF, can be too much for a phone’s memory.
Is there a limit on image size or the number of images?
The tools set none. Your device's memory is the practical ceiling, and images up to 16,384 pixels on a side are supported.
