Frequently asked questions

Which image tool reduces file size the most?
Resizing, when the image is larger than it needs to be: halving the width and height leaves a quarter of the pixels. Compressing then re-encodes what is left more efficiently. For a very large photo, do both — resize first, then compress.
What is the difference between compressing and resizing an image?
Compressing keeps the dimensions and stores the pixels more efficiently. Resizing changes the dimensions themselves. Both make the file smaller, but only resizing makes the picture smaller on screen.
Do these image tools keep transparency?
Yes, for PNG and WEBP: the converter, cropper and resizer all keep the alpha channel. JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas turn white when you save as JPG. To create transparency, remove the background.
Can I use the image tools on my phone?
Yes. Every tool works in a current mobile browser — Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android — and you can pick photos straight from your library.
Is there a limit on image size or the number of images?
The tools set none. Your device's memory is the practical ceiling, and images up to 16,384 pixels on a side are supported.
