A favicon helps visitors recognize your website in browser tabs, bookmarks and shortcuts. This free favicon generator creates a coordinated set from PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC, entirely in your browser.

Use a simple mark with strong contrast. Small lettering and detailed photos can disappear at 16 × 16 pixels; check the actual-size previews before exporting.

How to create a favicon from an image

  1. Choose your logo

Drop an image anywhere on the page or select a file. A square source of at least 512 × 512 pixels works well.

  2. Check the previews

Keep the full image or crop it to a square. Adjust padding and the background for Apple and maskable icons.

  3. Download and install

Generate the package, extract the ZIP and upload the icons and manifest. Copy the supplied link tags into your website’s head.

One set for browser tabs and home screens

The ICO contains 16, 32 and 48 pixel images. Separate PNGs cover 16, 32, 48, 96, 180, 192 and 512 pixels. Apple Touch uses an opaque background; the separate maskable icon keeps the whole source inside its safe area.

Prepare a clear, recognizable mark

For a transparent logo, start with PNG or remove the background first. Crop an image to refine the subject. Enlarging a tiny source cannot recover lost detail. If you only need a custom ICO file, use Image to ICO.

Installing and troubleshooting favicons

Use the included HTML for files at your website root. Merge icon entries into an existing manifest rather than replacing it. Check that each icon URL loads, remove conflicting old tags and refresh cached icons. Search engines need to recrawl changes; appearance in results is not guaranteed.

Favicon sizes and filenames

The ZIP contains 12 files. These are the icon assets and their intended uses.

Frequently asked questions

Is this favicon generator free?
Yes. Generate and download the files without an account or watermark. Your image is processed locally in the browser.
Can I turn PNG or JPG into a favicon?
Yes, along with WebP and HEIC. Transparent PNG is useful for logos. This tool does not accept SVG, GIF or ICO input.
What is included in the ZIP?
One multi-size ICO, eight PNG files, site.webmanifest, an HTML snippet and localized installation instructions. The PNG files include a separate 512 pixel maskable icon.
Why does the maskable preview have more space?
Launchers can crop an icon to different shapes. The generator keeps the entire source within the central safe circle and fills the background, so important edges stay protected.
Will Google show my favicon immediately?
No. Google must crawl your homepage and icon. The included 96 pixel PNG is square and larger than 48 pixels, as Google recommends. Use a stable, crawlable URL; display is not guaranteed.
Does this make my website a PWA?
It creates icon assets and a starter manifest. An installable web app needs additional configuration, including a secure deployment and suitable app behavior. Review the name, start URL and scope before publishing.
