Splitting covers two jobs that sound like one. Sometimes you want a few pages out of a long document — the invoice on page 7, the signed page at the end. Sometimes you want the document broken up, one file per part, so each can be sent to a different person.

Both start the same way: say which pages, then choose whether the result is one file or several. Pages are copied across untouched, so what comes out is as sharp as what went in and the text is still text.

How to split a PDF

How the page selection works

The box takes the same shorthand a print dialog does. A single number is one page. Two numbers with a dash is a run. A comma separates them, so 1-3, 8, 12-15 means the first three pages, then page eight, then four more from twelve.

An open end works too: 7- means page seven to the last page, whatever that is. Leaving the box empty means every page, which is what you want when you are breaking a document into one file per page.

The order you write is the order you get. Typing 5, 1 puts page five before page one, because someone writing it that way is reordering on purpose and silently sorting it would be second-guessing them.

One file or several

One PDF collects everything you selected into a single document. This is extraction: pulling the three pages that matter out of a forty-page report and leaving the rest behind.

Separate PDFs writes one file per range you wrote. Type 1-4, 5-8 and you get two documents. Leave the selection empty and every page becomes its own file, which is the quickest way to break a scanned batch back into individual records.

Each result is listed with its own download button, named after the source and the pages it holds, so a handful of files do not become a guessing game.

Nothing is uploaded

Splitting usually means handing a whole document to a server so it can send part of it back — which is a strange trade when the part you want to keep private is the part you are not extracting.

This runs in your browser. The file never leaves your device, so there is no upload, no queue and no size limit beyond your own memory. A three-hundred-page scan splits as readily as a three-page letter.

Password-protected PDFs are the one thing that will not work: an encrypted file cannot be opened here at all. Remove the password first in whichever application made it.

Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The split runs in your browser, on your own device. The file never reaches a server, so there is nothing to delete afterwards.
How do I write the page selection?
Like a print dialog: 1-3, 8, 12-15. A single number is one page, a dash makes a run, and 7- means page seven to the end. Empty means every page.
What is the difference between One PDF and Separate PDFs?
One PDF puts everything you selected into a single document. Separate PDFs gives one file per range you wrote, or one per page if the selection is empty.
Will the pages lose quality?
No. Pages are copied, never re-rendered. A scan keeps its exact resolution and text stays selectable.
Can I reorder pages while splitting?
The order you type is the order you get, so 5, 1 works. To move pages around inside a document, Organise PDF pages is the better tool.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
No. An encrypted PDF cannot be opened here. Remove the password in the application that created it, then split the unprotected copy.
How many files can it produce at once?
There is no fixed limit, though each file arrives as its own download. Splitting a very long document into hundreds of single pages is better done in a few passes.
Can I put the parts back together?
